You have to do you and if you don’t do you, you don’t get done

I don’t know where I heard this quote the first time but I’ve used it many times since then. It really says it all about what your responsibility is when it comes to your life. You have to do you. You are the one that is responsible for your job, your hobbies, your relationship with God and many other things.

You’re a completely unique person. When I say that, I mean that you have qualities that no one else has. Your gift mix and personality is like no one else on planet earth. You are like a finger print. There are literally billions of sets of fingerprints on the planet and yet none of them are exactly alike. There are billions of people on the globe but none of us are exactly alike.

We have a lot of similar qualities and characteristic, we have physical things that are pretty much the same like two arms and two legs. Like two eyes and two ears. Most of us have tongues and teeth. So…we are alike in many ways but there are parts of us that are very different.

I like to look at us as a pie. My mom makes the best pies in the world. She has won many awards and made pies for charities that are auctioned off for a lot of money. Pies have pieces. You very rarely eat a whole pie without cutting it up. Every piece is part of the pie and if one piece is gone, the pie is incomplete.

When you work as part of a team, you are a piece of the pie and if you don’t show up the pie is incomplete. That’s true with anything you are involved in. If you are part of a family, your absence makes it incomplete. Your piece of the pie is the only one that can occupy that space. Your skill set, gifting and temperament fit somewhere and adds value to whatever team you’re on.

Basketball teams have different positions. The guards shouldn’t try to play center and the forwards shouldn’t try to play guard. They can do it if it’s an emergency or if no one else will but it isn’t the best way to do it. True team players find out where they fit in best and do their best to fit into the team structure.

Find out your strengths and weaknesses and use them to the best of your ability to bless your team. There are lots of personality tests on line that can help you but I believe the best way to approach this is to set down as a team and discuss where people fit and what their strengths and weaknesses are. Use every resource at your disposal to maximize your abilities.
