Ask yourself… How am I flourishing?

Baby Boomers are the largest demographic in the United States. Baby Boomers are defined as people born between 1946 and 1964. According to Wikipedia, There were 76,000,000 people born between those dates.

Baby Boomers are retiring at a very high rate which is not necessarily bad. I believe Baby Boomers are the most productive generation in the history of America. I know that some people would argue that Baby Boomers have produced a lot of negative things as well and I would have to agree with them but, for the most part it has been good.

The culture we live in needs a lot of help…and that could go without saying. I feel like Baby Boomers are one of the keys to sustaining our standard of living and passing it on. If we retire and just sit down, not doing anything, produces nothing.

A lot of Boomers feel like they have already paid their dues and they would be right. We’ve gone the extra mile with our families, our communities, and our churches. We’ve poured our lives into our businesses, our jobs and our government.

I’ve watched as many of the previous generation retired and just sat down. I contend that that is what happened to my grandfather. He retired from working and his purpose was gone. He had no driving force behind him to keep him active and alive. It was destructive for him.

Many people have told me that they retired but after a year or so, they couldn’t take it any more, they had to have a thing to do that would give them purpose. They fished or played golf for the last 12 months or so but it wasn’t filling the hole in their hearts. There is certainly nothing wrong with fishing or playing golf, it just doesn’t serve a life sustaining, life altering purpose.

I believe everyone needs a place and a thing. A significant place to go, and a productive thing to do.

The Bible says in Psalms 92:13-15 “Those who are planted in the house of the Lord shall flourish in the courts of our God. They shall still bear fruit in old age; They shall be fresh and flourishing, to declare that the Lord is upright; He is my rock, and there is no unrighteousness in Him.”

Ask yourself, “How am I flourishing?” “How am I bearing fruit?”

You need a place and a thing.

More to come.
